CLEAR Eliminates Another Line at the Airport

April 21, 2014

What’s better than breezing through airport security?  Having your drink and snack waiting for you on the other side of course! To make travel easier, CLEAR, Orlando International Airport and OTG have partnered to battle another long line.

In this exciting new beta program, CLEARmembers can now order snacks as they speed through the CLEARlane and have their items waiting for them at a CIBO Express Gourmet Market counter nearest to their gate.  Payments are embedded in the new grab-n-go concessions program so CLEAR travelers don’t need to wait at the register to pay. No more waiting for people fishing change out of their pockets, deciding which magazine to get or debating the merits of coffee vs tea.

This is another step in CLEAR’s mission to create a better customer experience beyond the airport security line.  We are excited for this pilot and look forward to debuting this service at other CLEAR airports.

“CLEAR continues to transform the travel experience for our members.  We understand the many pain points and bottlenecks travelers face today and are very excited to ease the stress with this new benefit.” stated Caryn Seidman Becker, CLEAR’s Chairman and CEO.

CLEAR Travels: Top 5 Reasons I love Dublin

October 21, 2013

I just returned from my second trip to Dublin, and people keep asking me why I pick Ireland as a quick weekend getaway.

Dublin is the perfect long weekend – it’s as beautiful and historic as any European city but has a uniquely laid-back, friendly, and social vibe (not to mention your dollar will also go a bit further there than in other European cities).

5 Best parts of Dublin:

1.    Just Bring Jeans:  It’s a chic but casual city, so jeans are all that’s required. Leave your dresses and suits at home!  One carry-on is all you need for 4 to 5 days. You can go straight from walking the city to the hippest restaurant and never feeling underdressed.

2.    Drink and Be Merry:  Dubliners are friendly and fun.  There’s a pub every 2 feet and great food of all kinds (no reservations needed).  Jameson and Guinness have entertaining tours for experiencing the best of Irish brewing during the day.

3.    Closer than London:  Dublin is closer than London, so East Coasters can pop over to Dublin in the same time it takes to get to CA.

4.    Easy Day Trips:  Ireland is gorgeous and easy to get around. Dublin is a great starting point from where you can explore the country. You can take day trips to kiss the Blarney stone in Cork, see the Cliffs of Moher in Galway and even go to Belfast – for about $50 per person.

5.    Clear Customs Before You Leave:  Of course, as a CLEAR employee I am all about easy travel. Ireland and the US have a great partnership where you clear customs before you leave Ireland, making traveling home super fast.

Next time you’re thinking about where to spend a holiday weekend, you’ll know where to go!

San Jose CLEARlanes now open!

September 13, 2013

CLEAR members can now speed through airport security in both Terminal A and B at San Jose International Airport (SJC), serving all airlines. We are excited to bring the fastest, most predictable way through airport security to more Bay Area travelers.

The hours for Terminal A and Terminal B CLEARlanes are Monday-Friday 5am-8pm. PreCheck integration will be available in both terminals at San Jose International once PreCheck opens there next month. This means that if CLEAR members have PreCheck, they can use the CLEARlane as usual to avoid long lines and then use the PreCheck lane for physical screening (if qualified for that flight): the most efficient travel experience possible. The CLEAR PreCheck experience is currently available in Denver, Orlando, and San Francisco.

We are thrilled to be open in San Jose. CLEAR is growing fast and has already been used over 1.2 million times, saving our members over 36 million minutes. A huge “thank you” to our members for their continued loyalty and support.

Bigger, Better, Faster: CLEAR Announces Big Expansion to Houston, Texas

August 15, 2013

Exciting news! CLEAR is expanding to both George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) in November 2013.

We are thrilled to expand our network and grow our footprint in Texas by bringing CLEAR to Houston. George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby airport serve over 50 million passengers every year, a number that will continue to grow, especially as Hobby expands into international flights in 2015. CLEAR and The Houston Airport System are similarly dedicated to creating the best possible experience for residents and visitors to the largest city in Texas. We look forward to welcoming Houston into the CLEAR network this year.

Three of the top ten most popular destinations from IAH (Denver, San Francisco & Dallas) and HOU (Dallas, Denver, Orlando) are already CLEAR airports. This, in addition to the launch of CLEAR at San Antonio International Airport this August, will further drive the powerful network effect for current and future CLEAR members.

Thanks to all of our loyal CLEAR members for sharing in our excitement – we couldn’t do what we do without your feedback, support, and loyalty.

See you in the CLEAR lane!

Lend Your Voices to Ours!

October 23, 2012

We get a lot of questions about when we’re coming to different airports. Well here’s the answer: As soon as we can, and you can help!

We know that we have members and potential members all over the country that would benefit from the speed, predictability and service of CLEAR. And you can help. We’re asking you to lend your voices to ours. Below are a few of the Twitter handles for airports and Mayors in the cities where you’ve told us you’d like to see CLEAR.Your opinions matter–tell your airports and local officials how CLEAR would change your travels, your work, your life. Celebrate World Tourism Day with Eco-Friendly Travel

September 27, 2012

Today (September 27th) is the 32nd annual United Nations World Tourism Day, and this year’s theme is Tourism and Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development.

We were surprised to find out that one of the biggest travel trends of the last 5 years is the rise of ecotourism, but as it turns out, if you’ve visited a national park, or followed the “leave nothing take nothing” rule on a camping trip, you’re considered an eco-tourist!

In honor of World Tourism Day, here are a few suggestions of how you can incorporate sustainability into your travels both close to home and around the globe:

  • If you’re looking for some great eco-friendly trips not too far from home, consider some U.S. retreats that are not only lovely, but also focused on staying green and preserving the local environment.
  • Looking to take your eco-inclinations abroad? Eco Tour Directory maintains a database of over 100 global eco-tour providers who can offer ideas and packages to help simplify your next adventure.
  • If you want to really get your hands dirty and learn about sustainable living, try WOOFing, where you can volunteer to work on an organic farm (in over 30 countries) in exchange for food, lodging, and an unforgettable experience.

If you’re not quite ready to take a sustainable trip, check out this year’s World Tourism Day photo competition for some amazing examples of how tourism and sustainability go hand in hand.

Happy Labor Day!

September 3, 2012

Today we’re celebrating one of the most rewarding, important and well-timed holidays of the year—Labor Day.

Did you know (I didn’t) that Labor Day celebrates the economic and social contributions of workers and was first proposed in 1882? That’s a lot of years of celebrating how hard we work. Falling perfectly between 4th of July and Thanksgiving, Labor Day comes at a time when we could all use a nice, long, three-day weekend.

Today, Labor Day is seen as the symbolic end of summer, which, let’s face it, can be a bummer. No more long nights or delicious BBQs with friends and family. But Labor Day doesn’t have to mean the end of summer. This year, CLEAR is redefining Labor Day as the start of fall!

labor day leaves

We insist you take a well-deserved long weekend to rest, give your mind a break and get excited for a fall season full of colorful leaves, pumpkin pie, and perfect travel weather.

Work hard… travel easy.

Have a great holiday and see you in the CLEAR lane!

Want to Travel Like a Pro?

August 1, 2012

Tim Ferriss, Author of The 4-Hour Workweek, and the CLEAR Team have some Tips to Share!

Recently, Tim Ferriss, a man who understands the value of speed and time, shared some of his expert tips for quick and painless travel in The New York Times Travel Section. Tim relies on his CLEAR card to guarantee that he’ll spend no more than 5 minutes going through airport security, meaning he can zip “from home to gate in 20 minutes.” Isn’t that the dream?

At CLEAR, our team is constantly moving. Whether supporting our airport partners from San Francisco to Orlando, or visiting new cities in order to bring the CLEAR experience to more travelers nationwide, we have a passion for travel, and, if we do say so ourselves, we do it well. Check out some of our tricks for a stress-free trip!

Tim Ferriss travel tips CLEAR

CLEAR members are ‘UP in the Air’ all the time—one thing we definitely never pack? A pillow!

Top 11 CLEAR Travel Tips:

  1. We agree with Tim—never check a bag. All you need is one nice pair of pants, a basic pair of shoes, and a couple of shirts.
  2. Download helpful apps like Tripit and Gate Guru, so you can check flight status and gate on the way to the airport.
  3. Always bring something non-digital, like work or a magazine, so you can stay productive during takeoffs and landings.
  4. Pick up a cup of coffee and a snack before you board—flight options are sometimes limited. In San Francisco we love Peet’s Coffee and Starbucks.
  5. Remember that sometimes even empty bags can be heavy—invest in a light but durable carry-on. We love expandable ones!
  6. Keep toiletries in a small bag at the top of your luggage so that they can be easily removed when going through security.
  7. Always put your house keys in the same outside pocket of your travel bag. That way, you’re never scrambling to find them when you get back home.
  8. To avoid getting hung-up at the security screening, take off all outerwear like scarves and jackets, as well as metal, like watches and cellphones, right as you step into the airport.
  9. Always keep a travel bag ready to go with things like chargers, toiletries, and copies of documents. That way you only have to add clothes.
  10. After you land, take advantage of membership programs offered by places such as Starwood Hotels. Just like frequent flying, you’ll be rewarded for your loyalty with benefits, points, and upgrades.
  11. Security lines are unpredictable so make sure to leave plenty of time to avoid stress. That is, of course, unless you’re flying out of a CLEAR airport—then you know security will only take about five minutes!
